Dear colleagues,

The main phlebological event in 2009 will be the UIP World Congress in Monaco (www.uip2009.eu).

At this occasion the Executive Committee (EXECOM) of the UIP with a President Elect, five Vice Presidents, one General Secretary, one General Secretary Adjoint and one Treasurer will be elected. The positions of President and Vice Presidents are not re-electable, the other positions are.

I have to thank my colleagues in the current EXECOM of the UIP for their very active cooperation in the last four years which was mandatory for the active role which UIP has to play in international phlebology. Many new projects like the newsletter and the consensus groups have only been possible due to this close cooperation. In the last EXECOM the Vice Presidents represented all continents in which UIP-societies are active like Europe, North- and South-America and Australasia. This proved to be very advantageous for our success as the Vice Presidents were able to endorse national activities much better in their own region.

For the future the close cooperation in the EXECOM will be even more essential. We have just started with the educational concepts for the future of phlebology which have to be implemented in our member societies worldwide. There is a lot of upcoming work to do and a lot of activities will be asked from the EXECOM members.

When it is necessary for this purpose to have the Vice President representing the different regions worldwide it’s even more necessary for the other positions to have clear concepts and to be able to integrate different activities and standpoints within the UIP-programme.

Enclosed you will find the list of candidates who applied for different positions in the UIP-EXECOM and who are electable in Monaco. According to our constitution one person can be candidate for different positions whereas the candidate of course can be elected only for one. All the candidates have been nominated by their national societies and I have asked them to present themselves with a picture, a short curriculum vitae and a statement of their motivation for the candidature. In the attached files you will find all this information.
Only the official representatives of the national member societies have the right to vote.
For more transparency in the decisions of the UIP I send this information to all of you in accordance with the candidates.
